Firman Power Equipent

ECOMMERCE REDESIGN

Firman is an equipment company that provides its customers with products that keep them powered and going strong regardless of the environmental condition they are in.

THE PROBLEM

Due to a rise in natural disasters in the US,  a demand for more emergency power equipment caused a surge in new customers for the company. Firman is an established brand in the power equipment market but lacked a modern website with the proper support tools to assist its growing customers.

Firman needed help with a  simple way for existing customers to get support documentation for their generators and provide new customers with ways to get context on which generators suited their needs the best.

We re-designed the entire eCommerce experience in 6 months, with full enhancement of way-finding and customer support opportunities

UX Phase

The users coming to website the site were a mix of new and existing customers with technical inquiries about the products.

For new users, the UX had to consider many of them were entering the site without much knowledge about generators or how to choose the right generator. This was done by updating the wayfinding to be more focused on making each generator series more distinct by function. Secondarily, we created a buying guide to educate generator wattage and recommend products.

As for the existing experienced customers, the product pages needed to strike a balance of product storytelling for new users but also provide essential support information like specifications, digital manuals and schematics for experienced working professionals.

The Power Of Knowledge

Customers understood the purpose of generators but lacked the knowledge to pinpoint the type of generator they needed. My primary focus for the homepage was to connect users to a lifestyle or use case versus having them choose a generator at random.

Navigating Through Firman

Many customers had a general understanding of generators but lacked the knowledge to differentiate one generator from another. My goal was to lay out the navigation that clearly separated each series of generators but also had a built-in section where new users could learn the basics of wattage and generators.

Summary

The site launched back in July of 2021 and has seen much success since then. The site re-launched opened the brand with a new revenue stream (DTC).
